Twin Lakes – Lost Creek FSR

Summary of Route

- Type: Out and back; lakeside car camping

- Rating: 2/5

- Season: Any, but Spring to October recommended

- Length: 11.7km one way from start of gravel road

- Vehicle suitability: Lightly modified 4x4

The Route

Located east of Stave Lake, this route is short and provides access to free, lakeside camping with ample swimming opportunities. Due to the proximity to the lower mainland, attempt to arrive early if it is a weekend as there is only one obvious camping site that allows access to the developed docks as seen in the photos. This site, along with much of this area, has suffered from irresponsible users who do not clean up after themselves.

Access to this short overland route is off of Sylvester Road, north of Mission. Lost Creek FSR and the shift from pavement to gravel begins at GPS coordinates 49.27949, -122.22814 (below photos), slightly before Davis Lake Provincial Park. Lost Creek FSR is an extremely well maintained FSR and is suitable for all vehicles.

Continue along Lost Creek FSR until GPS coordinates 49.34623, -122.23606, making a left (west) onto Lost Twin FSR. Road conditions deteriorate shortly after turning onto Lost Twin FSR. Lost Twin FSR will take you the entirety of the way to Twin Lakes; however, GAIA or a hardcopy map of these back roads is necessary for navigation as this area has significant alternate logging roads to explore. If you are without either of these resources, attempt to follow the "main" road. As the hill climb begins you will turn right (first below photo), and you will continue to bear left at all subsequent intersections (second below photo).

As Lost Twin FSR takes a north heading, and once you have passed the intersections depicted above, the road continues to deteriorate, initially with a hill climb over melon sized rocks and the eventual crux of this route occurring at GPS coordinates 49.35068, -122.24281 for an eroded water bar.

Should you be able to pass this water bar, the going is relatively smooth until you arrive at Twin Lakes at GPS coordinates 49.35338, -122.25622. If Twin Lakes is busy, consider traveling further up Lost Creek FSR to Salsbury Lake or Grotto Falls, described here. If you are searching for alternate lakeside overland camping opportunities, consider our Murphy Lakes and Peachland to Merritt overland routes!
