The Route

The Road to Liumchen Lake – Windy Knob FSR overland route is an excellent entry-level route that presents dispersed camping opportunities with big views. The Road to Liumchen Lake – Windy Know FSR can be completed in any AWD vehicle.

Access to the Road to Liumchen Lake – Windy Knob FSR overland route occurs south of Chilliwack, just east of the small community of Cultus Lake. From Columbia Valley Road, make a left turn onto Sleep Hollow Road. Continue on Sleep Hollow Road for approximately 300 meters before turning right onto Vance Road. Vance Road will shortly turn into Liumchen Creek FSR and your gravel travel will begin. Continue along Liumchen Creek FSR for approximately 3.4km’s before bearing left at the below depicted intersection.

First intersection on the Road to Liumchen Lake - Windy Knob FSR overland route.

Continue along this road for approximately 1.5km’s, bearing right at the next intersection, (first photo below) and avoiding a left turn onto Little Tamihi 1000 FSR. Windy Knob FSR will become steeper after this point; however, due to recent logging this road is in excellent condition. While relatively wide, there are multiple blind corners so travel with caution and stick to your side of the road as you complete these turns.

After having climbed for approximately 5.3km’s from the last intersection you will notice an FSR off-shoot to your left. Take this turnoff for a beautiful site with views overlooking the Fraser Valley and Chilliwack River Valley.

If you have decent clearance on your vehicle, you can continue further along to a higher campsite with slightly larger views. Return to Windy Knob FSR and continue to climb. You will quickly reach the below depicted intersection. The left route is gated approximately 200m’s further, unfortunately preventing easy access to Liumchen Lake and Liumchen Mountain. Take the right path along “Branch 12” to climb slightly higher and gain larger views. This short section has a few water bars that may be difficult for vehicles without adequate clearance.
